After President Donald Trump issued an executive order in which he yanked the security clearances of not just John Bolton, but also the 51 members of the “intelligence community” who wrote a letter before the 2020 election in which they derided the Hunter Biden laptop as potential Russian disinformation, a group that included John Brennan, Brennan went on MSNBC and freaked out, lying about what happened. Predictably, he got roasted over the coals online over his lies and claims.
Brennan began his angry rant to MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell by saying, “The only reason why I still had a security clearance, as I have for the past number of years since I left government service, was for the benefit of the government, so that if the CIA or another government agency wanted to call me in to discuss the classified matter, they could do that.”
Then, continuing on that note in a somewhat unconvincing fashion, the Trump Derangement Syndrome-afflicted former CIA head said, “It was really for the government’s benefit. It was to facilitate those classified discussions with myself as well as with former directors as well as other former members of the intelligence community that had those clearances.”
Brennan also claimed Trump was lying about the lie-filled letter that he, Brennan, helped write, saying, playing semantic games to try and make himself look innocent, “He misrepresented the facts in that executive order because it said that we had suggested that the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian disinformation. No, we said it was all the hallmarks of Russian information operations, including the dumping of accurate information, which is what we said in that letter.”
For reference, in the executive order, Trump said, accurately, “In the closing weeks of the 2020 Presidential campaign, at least 51 former intelligence officials coordinated with the Biden campaign to issue a letter discrediting the reporting that President Joseph R. Biden’s son had abandoned his laptop at a computer repair business. Signatories of the letter falsely suggested that the news story was part of a Russian disinformation campaign.”
Then, claiming that the security clearance revocation was pure revenge, and not addressing Trump’s claims that he had torpedoed intelligence community gravitas, Brennan said, “So, again, this was just, you know, his effort to try to get back at those individuals who have criticized him openly and publicly in the past, and I think very legitimately.” Watch him here:
Brennan was savaged online for his false claims about Trump. Amongst those doing so was Glenn Greenwald, who posted a headline from POLITICO, from the time, which said, “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say.” Commenting on it to roast Brennan, he said, “John Brennan, whined on MSNBC about the revocation of his security clearance for lying, and lied again (see video below). He denied he and CIA goons said the Hunter laptop was “Russian disinformation.” Here’s what POLITICO said after they fed the story to @NatashaBertrand.”
Similarly, the Western Lensman X account wrote, after quoting Brennan, “The carefully crafted language that afforded this election interference op and its perpetrators cover is meaningless — the intent was clear: Give Biden and legacy media 11th-hour propaganda to combat the truths contained on the laptop. Finally, there is some measure of accountability.” A quote tweeter of that said, “John Brennan is a pathetic liar.”
